Summer begins for our family next week! We have swim lessons scheduled and will make visits to local parks and lake. But we will also have a lot of time at home: catching up on board games, playing with our puppy, and running on slip n slides. Life fills up quickly during the school year! So my goals this summer involve slowing down, enjoying life, and savoring simple moments.
1. Cook more frequently
I had several deadlines these past few weeks and it definitely increased our takeout orders. Currently craving fresh grilled vegetables and summer desserts. Fresh/local produce and meat are high on my priority list!
2. Savor Family Time
I tend to start summer with a lot of lofty goals and ideas, but this summer we are going to keep things pretty simple. Swim lessons, the library, park visits, and lounging around the house are the extent of our plans. I would love to try some crafty projects with our kids that we don't have time for during the school year.
3. Complete a Small Home Project
I am shying away from any large home design projects this summer, but our kitchen nook could use a makeover. And it would be pretty simple. I am mainly looking to replace our light fixture and mini blinds (!) Pinning ideas here.
4. Don't loose myself in the midst of parenting
This is a tricky one! I love our two kids so incredibly much. And I don't know why exactly but around August I am exhausted. Part of it is related to having a child with some special needs (who needs a lot of structure and predictability) and part of it is my personality: I tend to become a bit frazzled while trying to do all the fun things and maintain a sense of order. One thing I believe will help my attitude is not giving up on style. Even it it means wearing a simple sundress to the park. Does that sound crazy?
