Make this fresh peach crisp recipe with oats (with whipped cream on top)

I love the sweet, tangy fresh peach flavor with the buttery oat crunch on top in this fresh peach crisp recipe. Fresh vanilla whipped cream goes perfectly on the side.

I made my first crisp while living in Minnesota. We had discovered the fun of visiting apple orchards and quickly became hooked on apple crisp. Peach crisp is the same idea, and just as good (if not better!)  I used local peaches from the farmer’s market for this recipe. And confession time: the first time I made it I ate the whole thing (over 2 days…)

Frequently Asked Questions about Fresh Peach Crisp

Are there any variations to the recipe, such as adding nuts or spices like nutmeg or ginger?

Yes! There are several variations you can try to customize the flavor of your peach crisp.

  1. Nuts: Adding finely chopped nuts like pecans, almonds, or walnuts to the topping can add a delicious crunch and extra flavor. Simply mix them in with the flour, brown sugar, and oats.
  2. Spices: Experimenting with different spices can enhance the taste of your peach crisp. Nutmeg, ginger, or even a pinch of cloves can complement the sweetness of the peaches.
  3. Vanilla Extract: Adding a splash of vanilla extract to the melted butter mixture can add a lovely depth of flavor to the topping.
  4. Lemon Zest: For a touch of brightness, consider adding some freshly grated lemon zest to the peach filling. The zest will provide a subtle citrus flavor that pairs well with the sweetness of the peaches.

Can I make a peach crisp in a different type of baking dish if I don’t have a cast iron skillet?

You can make a fresh peach crisp in a different type of baking dish if you don’t have a cast iron skillet. Here are some alternative baking dishes you can use:

  1. Glass or Ceramic Baking Dish: A standard glass or ceramic baking dish works well for making peach crisp.
  2. Metal Baking Pan: A metal baking pan, such as a square or rectangular cake pan, can also be used. Just be mindful that metal conducts heat differently than cast iron or glass, so you may need to adjust the baking time accordingly.
  3. Individual Ramekins: You can make individual servings of peach crisp by using ramekins or small baking dishes.
