I am so excited to share this project with you today. We have a few consistent challenges at our house, and two of the big ones are screen time and sleep. I try to limit our kids to 1 1/2 hours of screen time a day, and our son often pushes for more. I needed a simple visual to show him when the "jar" gets filled each day.
The screen time mason jar was an instant success. Our kids enjoy monitoring their 30 minute increments and show strategy in their decision making. For example now our son might play an educational computer game for 30 minutes and then choose to save his remaining time for a tv show (we use a visual timer to help measure time).
Another challenge in our home involves encouraging our kids to sleep in their beds all night. They are restless sleepers so I developed a 7-jar chart. Each night they sleep in their bed the jar is filled with color (we used dry erase markers, any washable marker would work). When all the jars are filled they get a reward. I left the chart open so that if a different "challenge" such as finishing dinner, getting dressed, or completing homework can be filled in the blank.
