I love a good seasonal wreath on my front door, but like many of you I don’t have a big wreath budget each season! So when I spotted a lonely looking $6 pinecone wreath at the thrift store a few weeks ago, I knew it just needed a little sprucing up to make it look fresh and add a natural touch.

Scroll down below for directions on how to update your own pinecone wreath!

Spotted at my local Habitat Restore. It looked so lonely with the evergreen-style wreaths! It was technically $8, but I had a 20% coupon…because I’m cheap like that.

Upcycled Autumn Wreath

Supplies

Pinecone style wreath

Hot glue gun (affiliate link)

Dried sweetgum balls (if you don’t have these locally, they can be found on Etsy)

A few small, natural pinecones

Thin, twig style branches

3-4″ thick burlap ribbon

Step 1:

Remove old ribbons or bows.

Step 2:

Gather sweet gum balls, and spot empty spots in your wreath to fill.

Step 3:

Carefully glue sweet gum balls to wreath using hot glue gun. Apply pressure to balls for at least 10 seconds while glue sets.

Step 4:

Hot glue a few small natural pinecones to wreath, filling in any blank spots.

Step 5:

Glue a few thin twigs to front of wreath, layering at least 2 branches. The branches add texture to the wreath.

Step 6:

Decide how you want the wreath to hang (where the top will be) and carefully add burlap ribbon to wreath. Hang and enjoy!

Pinecone wreaths have loads of Autumn charm, and by updating a wreath from the thrift store we keep cost down and make it a one of a kind piece. I used branches and pinecones from my mother in law’s yard, and already owned the glue gun, so the only cost on this project was the $6 wreath.

I plan to keep this wreath up from October through Thanksgiving. The cheerful gold mixed with natural tones and textures makes me smile. Do you have a wreath at your house that needs a little TLC? Would love to see pictures!
