I've always been a "doer". In high school every moment was filled with clubs, sports, yearbook, and school plays. As I've grown older its been in a career path. It is often a thorn in my side, as I find myself unable to read magazines without thinking:: I want to be a part of this. Reading a book and thinking: I want to publish this. And constantly challenging myself to do more (ahem, selective perfectionist--anyone else?).
Sidenote: to those of you with dreams and ideas: don't be so quick to stomp on them. You may think of them as trivial or impractical. But on the other hand what if God is calling you to something unique? Asking you to use your giftedness in a certain area to glorify Him? Perhaps He is calling you to a season of slowing down. Or taking on more responsibility?
This has been a tumultuous year for me internally. My husband changed jobs, and we considered me going back to work full time. While I love this blog and my freelance work, it brings in a fraction of what I could make working a "regular" job in design or social media. And it can be difficult to be a team of 1:: bouncing blog ideas off of yourself, running analytics, scheduling old content while pitching new ideas to companies. Self doubt is real and can be quite painful.
At the same time, I love working from home. Having a flexible schedule. Creating new content for this site and working with great brands. I love using my brain to do what I love.
So, with all that in mind, my word for 2017 is a simple one: make.
Make new content for the blog--at least 1 original post a week.
(learn how to...) Make videos.
Make new, fresh recipes.
Make time for coffee shop gatherings with friends, Bible study, and exercise.
Make and maintain relationships with friends in the industry.
Make practical, budget friendly home design projects.
Make time for fun as a family.
