In May, after 10 years of working in corporate America, my husband Lee began consulting with Idea Couture, a global strategic innovation and experience design firm. Which meant he needed a home office! Making it work (since I also work from home in the downstairs office), we turned our playroom into his office. Admittedly I was a little sad to move out the toys. But our kids love having him home more, and they haven't complained a bit about having more toys in their rooms!
I made over the playroom a year ago last spring: painting the walls Palladian Blue and built a faux wood wall along the window. For the new office we kept the walls the same, and gave the space a dose of masculinity with a new dark grey sleeper sofa (Ikea Frieheten). The vintage mid century Broyhill desk, Lane coffee table/bench, and slatted chair were thrift store finds at our local Restore.
Thankfully the space is over our garage and pretty soundproof, so our kids don't have to tiptoe around after school if he is on a conference call. We both stay pretty busy, but try to grab a breakfast or lunch together once a week when the kids are in school.
Do you or your spouse work from home? Have any tips? It is working out well so far!
