A Simple, Modern Flocked Christmas Tree

Last year I decorated a pure white Christmas tree in our living room, but I changed it up this year with a new flocked Christmas tree. I love the bit of green that shows through with snowy white tips. Vintage accessories, warm lights, and silver ornaments feel warm and welcoming on a modern Christmas tree.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know I spend a lot of time selecting items that have good style, but on a small budget. Up until now our artificial Christmas trees cost under $50 (and I still plan to use those in other rooms!) So this year’s tree was a splurge. I shopped around online before ordering a beautiful 8 foot flocked artificial Christmas tree. I wanted a tree in our living room that would accent our high ceilings and this one does exactly that.

I selected a set of led light bulbs that are large and have an old fashioned feel. I hung 200 lights on our tree. I could have added more, but I like the warm white glow and I think less lights feels more simple. I prefer purchasing lights separately instead of prelit trees, so I can select and customize the lights I want each year.

For the ornaments I wanted something subtle with a modern feel, so I selected a big pack of silver ball ornaments from IKEA . My daughter and I also found 10 silver ornaments at Target ($1 each) that added extra sparkle and geometric texture.

With our tree so simple and modern, I wanted to give some vintage character under the tree. I added a galvanized advent calendar with some of my personal handmade ornaments in it, including my tealight ornaments, cinnamon stick ornaments, and salt dough ornaments. Along with gifts I mixed in some vintage books (we collect them from the thrift store) and antique metal trains given to us by my grandparents.

I wanted to share at least one picture of our Christmas tree with the lights off. You can see a little green, but overall it looks more modern and white. The silver star topper also has a completely different look with the lights off.

Thanks you for reading! I am really pleased with how our new flocked tree looks in the living room. The silver ornaments and warm large white lights create a modern Christmas tree. And the antique trains, kraft paper gifts, and advent calendar give the space a warm vintage feel.

Have you started decorating for Christmas? Its early, but now that the tree is up it just feels right!
